I'm a licensed architect in Texas and California with close to two decades in development and construction and more than $1.5 billion in completed project volume.

I've worked from three different seats on a building.

As the architect. Licensed in Texas and California, USC B.Arch. My own residential practice has produced houses across Austin and Los Angeles, including North Loop Residency, my own house, featured in Dwell.

As the owner's representative. Corporate campus work for Google at Moffett Place and Facebook at Building 20 — two clients with no tolerance for a schedule that slips or a number that moves.

As the developer. I currently serve as Head of Construction for a national hospitality developer, responsible for design and construction company-wide, from early feasibility through permitting and GMP negotiation to delivery. Hotels in New Orleans, Nashville, Austin, Santa Fe, and Encinitas. Before that, the 428-key Line Hotel in Austin on a $77MM budget.

Three seats, three sets of incentives. Most owners end up arbitrating between an architect and a builder without the information to do it. I’ve been both, and I’ve sat in the chair that pays for both. That’s the whole basis of the practice.

Hospitality renovation runs on compressed schedules, occupied buildings, and brand standards that don't move. It's an unforgiving way to learn how projects go wrong, and most of what goes wrong on a house goes wrong the same way.
